nationwide prop 8 protest this saturday!

Fight the H8 in Your State
A group called JoinTheImpact--which, from what I gather, is mostly two women and their blogs--has called for simultaneous nationwide protests of Prop 8 at city halls across the country this weekend. They've seemingly gotten a pretty strong response across Cyberland, with even local media outlets like KTLA taking notice.

Protests are now organized for at least one city in every state, with over 30 protests planned for California alone. The organizers seem to have hit on a potentially powerful organizing strategy--using the Internet and social networking sites (I found out about it on Facebook) to get the word out, then asking people to contact their local LGBT center/activist group/civil rights organization to sponsor a protest in their area.

How large these events will be will depend a lot on the on-the-ground organizing that exists in each location--but the speed with which this has come together (like, 3 days) is encouraging.

The protests are scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at the following times:

8:30 am HST (yes, that's Hawaii!)
10:30 am Pacific
11:30 am Mountain
12:30 pm Central
1:30 pm Eastern

You can find your local protest location here.

In other Prop 8 news, Governor Schwartzenegger spoke out against Prop 8 on CNN, a group of state legislators has filed a brief asking the state supreme court to overturn Prop 8, and this straight white dude is really, really angry.
