prop 8 update for the day

Went to E-Day volunteer training at the ACLU's downtown offices this morning. Also picked up a fresh No on 8 sign (since my old one had faded to illegibility) with the more aggressive, red-letter "Unfair & Wrong" slogan, which is now up on our house.

The latest poll shows Prop 8 passing 48% to 45%--which essentially means tied, since it's within the statistical margin of error. It also means several other things:

1. If Prop 8 is defeated, it will be by a VERY small margin--1%-2% or less. This means that every single vote actually does count.

2. 7% of voters still consider themselves undecided or unsure. If they're undecided now, they probably will be on Tuesday, too--which means meeting someone from one side or another on Election Day could be the things that swings them one way or the other.

3. Since early voting has tended to favor Prop 8, a high turnout for No on 8 on Election Day will likely make or break the campaign.

One thing that was very encouraging was to see the large number of volunteers at the Election Day training--at least 200 at my training, which is only one of dozens around the state this weekend. No on 8 has enlisted some 7,500 volunteers statewide--which campaign staffers think *should* be enough to tip the balance in our direction.

In any case, it will be down to the wire. So donate, vote, and stay tuned for more updates on Election Day!

  1. This election is so incredibly stressful I find myself vomiting in my mouth a lot. Which is not nearly as gross as Prop 8...
